Night SculpturePosted by Bill Jennings ((Bay Area Northern Calif), United States) on 29 June 2009 in Art & Design and Portfolio. Punta Ballena, near Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. So appropriate an entrance for "Whale Point" in the Sea of Cortez. This image was captured at night using a long exposure to get a milky look in the water. What drew me to the image is the color tones in the whale's tale: the greens, blues, and warm browns. Just made it home after a month of travel - posted a few photos from my journey to within 48 miles of the antartica circle: at nearly the longest day of the year: hence, there was 21 hours a day of sunlight... Thank you for your patience while I was out of touch. I do hope you followed Bob Kelly's blog (my roommate) while he is still traveling - he is now on Easter Island - and will be updating his blog for some time to come - please check it out!

MJ from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysiawow...i thought it was real whales when i 1st saw the pic. awesome shot! 29 Jun 2009 1:38pm @MJ: great feedback. it does have a very realistic look at a glance. I really enjoyed the sculpture, and returned at night : as it allowed me to ignore all the background more effectively, and play up the look of the water. @Onlymehdi: Thank you Mehdi. @Edvin: thank you Edvin. @Sarah: Thank you Sarah @Elora: indeed it was a great sight in person... thank you @Steve Rice: Thank you Steve. @Yvon: Thank you Yvon @Dawn: Thank you Dawn. Shot this manually, and really bracketed the exposure to find what I thought balanced the light and the effect of the water. @Lambspun: Thanks Lambspun - glad you liked it. Jason Kravitz from Brussels, Belgiumwow - great idea for a sculpture - looks authentic especially at night 30 Jun 2009 7:30am @Jason Kravitz: thanks Jason - the night made it work, during the day - there are many distractions in the background, that even a soft bokeh wouldn't fix. @Loner: Thanks Loner - glad you like it ! @Mags: Thanks Mags for the comment on the composition. @dj.tigersprout: thanks DJ - means a lot hearing that from you. |
