Madrina CollagePosted by Bill Jennings ((Bay Area Northern Calif), United States) on 12 June 2009 in Miscellaneous and Portfolio. As thanks for helping all the years for being Olivia's Godmother - we gave her a framed collage a little over 2 feet by 3 feet to place in her office at the American Heart association. This small jpg was used to help tell the framers how to compose the eight photos in the matting : which the framer floated in three layers: some forward of the normal plane, some inset, and some at the nominal level to create even more depth in the presentation. Several times her director has hinted that he'd like one for his office... Photos from a trip with my wife in January 2008 to Kenya, shortly after the contested elections for president in that country: it was a harrowing experience, but one that we did enjoy, and will remember for years to come. Just made it home after a month of travel - posted a few photos from my journey to within 48 miles of the antartica circle: at nearly the longest day of the year: hence, there was 21 hours a day of sunlight... Thank you for your patience while I was out of touch. I do hope you followed Bob Kelly's blog (my roommate) while he is still traveling - he is now on Easter Island - and will be updating his blog for some time to come - please check it out!

@Yvon: Thank you Yvon jamesy from christchurch, New Zealandwhat a lucky lady i bet it looks even better in full size and with the different depths in the frame 12 Jun 2009 7:00am @jamesy: It's fantastic framed, you're right. I nearly didn't want to give it to her, once I saw how well Bev framed it ! She's my wife's best friend for over twenty years, one of the guapas from college year in Madrid - which I describe (in way too much detail) in the blog post: A Poem for my Beautiful Wife. Sarito from Basingstoke, United Kingdomvery nicely put togther.. Great shots.. all of them! 12 Jun 2009 8:13am @Sarito: Thank you Sarito. I may post some of the individual shots later on the blog - so you can see more detail on them Marie-Hélène Ammor from Casablanca/Paris, MoroccoA great frame ! photos are superb and photos are so highlighted well ! 12 Jun 2009 10:23am @Marie-Hélène Ammor: Thank you Marie-Helene : I enjoyed custom cropping them to unusual sizes to create this composite. @zOOm: Never thought about it as a postcard, but you know, you're absolutely right !!! Dawn from Maryland, United StatesMy favorite one is the giraffe with the rainbow, what a shot!!. They are all great shots framed very well together. : ) 12 Jun 2009 11:42am @Dawn: The giraffe is a shot I like as well. Unfortunately, it was at the far reaches of the camera when I shot this : as I moved to a smaller reach lens, which I could use a polarizer for, so the larger photo isn't as crisp/sharp as I'd prefer: but it's so unique, it's still a great photo. Thanks for the kind words, Dawn. Judy from Brooksville, Florida, United StatesWhat a beautiful gift this was ...... you are a generous human being! 12 Jun 2009 12:01pm @Judy: One of the great things in life, is that many times truly selfless gifts return back to you many times over - many times in ways you never can anticipate, at a time that you really need help. We all get through life easier if we are in it together. Before I left, I did a great deal of research to insure that we would be safe: I found that my uncle's brother's son actually ran red cross operations in Kenya: and I spoke to him many times before we flew in. I also had a staff member from my team at work that did archeology with the Leakey's team during college in the Rift Valley - so I probed his contacts as well... Basically, I had on the ground resources looking out for me before I did go. There were very few others there - so, in a sense, it was our "private tour of Kenya". But it was harrowing, as my wife got food poisoning at a very high end restaurant, and we had to stay in country longer than planned - near the city. Mandy Provan from Johannesburg, South Africaglorious photo's Bill and a gift I am sure she treasured!!! 12 Jun 2009 12:29pm @Mandy Provan: she was very happy with the surprise, and it hangs in her office with pride. @Eleftheria: Thank you Eleftheria. @MARIANA: Thanks Mariana. @Onlymehdi: Right - I think that's a fabulous idea. Perhaps I should give this design to those african safari companies that advertise...??? Odd for me now to be sending out a postcard over a year after our trip. Dulcie from Danville, United StatesMagnificent animals...can only imagine the wonders of the trip. Lovely way to capture the memories. 12 Jun 2009 3:03pm @Dulcie: Thank you Dulcie - we truly enjoyed the trip. Steve Rice from Olympia, United StatesQuite a beautiful set of images. I'll bet she likes having that in her office. 12 Jun 2009 6:19pm @Steve Rice: Thank you Steve, she has commented that she loves the photos in her office sincerely several times. dkc from Xanthi, GreeceGreat postcard collage...You should send it to that office! 12 Jun 2009 9:35pm @dkc: I think you're right, I will indeed do that as well. Sugata from Newark, United StatesA very beautiful collage! I think I will try making some of my own. :) 14 Jun 2009 3:10am @Sugata: I would enjoy seeing your collage - it's a fun experiment to crop things in sizes that fit together well. @Tiff: Thanks Tiff |
