Holy WaterPosted by Bill Jennings ((Bay Area Northern Calif), United States) on 8 June 2009 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio. Sweetpea studied Baptism recently in church, and brought home holy water from the font to place near our front door. As she did, the clouds opened up, and created the nice high lights for this image. Just made it home after a month of travel - posted a few photos from my journey to within 48 miles of the antartica circle: at nearly the longest day of the year: hence, there was 21 hours a day of sunlight... Thank you for your patience while I was out of touch. I do hope you followed Bob Kelly's blog (my roommate) while he is still traveling - he is now on Easter Island - and will be updating his blog for some time to come - please check it out!

Marie-Hélène Ammor from Casablanca/Paris, MoroccoThat's a superb symbol !! This photo is a holy moment, light is wonderful! 8 Jun 2009 11:33am @Marie-Hélène Ammor: Thank you - I did think it was a holy moment myself. Uday from Fishers, United StatesSoft and nice. I like the way you have chosen the angle to get the light on the wall and have a perfect exposure on the face. Very good composition. 8 Jun 2009 3:13pm @Uday: Thank you - I just wish I had a deeper DOF... So much to learn, and practice @Onlymehdi: thank you Mehdi. @Sarah: Thank you Sarah - it was a special moment for my daughter. @Sugata: thank you sugata. @zOOm: Thank you zOOm. It was a family moment my daughter enjoyed. DaveB from Exeter, United KingdomNice lighting, but the narrow DoF does mean alot of the shot isn't in focus 8 Jun 2009 8:44pm @DaveB: I so agree Dave - when I later saw the shot in PS, I realized it should have been at least f/4.0 or better. Not much I could do at that time - as you can't just draw holy water from the faucet... Thanks for the honest critique. I still like the lighting and composition - just wish I got the DOF right... @Xavier: Yes, Xavier - I believe you're right. @Steve Rice: thank you Steve. @dkc: Thank you dkc Lambspun from Madison, Maine, United StatesReally unique photo...she's beautiful! 9 Jun 2009 1:29am @Lambspun: thank you on the photo- she gets her beauty from her mom :)... @grant: thank you grant - it was a special day for my girl. @jamesy: thank you - it was pretty amazing at the light appearing when it did - I wasn't really ready for the right f/stop - but took the shot anyway. dj.tigersprout from New York City, United Stateswow -- splendid and rarely presented moment -- beautiful ritualization and wonderful, warm lighting!! bravo!!! 10 Jun 2009 4:21am @dj.tigersprout: thsnk you again, dj. introducing kids to faith early will hopefully enable them to decide for themselves later in life what works for them - give them options. Magda from Vancouver, CanadaYes, the light is indeed, marvelous! I like the framing also. Nice one Bill! 10 Jun 2009 4:58am @Magda: Thank you Magda - the light surprised me before I was really ready for the shot: but I had to take it, as it was so striking. Rob from Velveetaville, United StatesWhat a wonderful image of a special moment in a child's life, just wonderful. Cheers, Rob 14 Jun 2009 1:41am @Rob: Yes, it really crystalized the meaning of baptism and holy water for Sweetpea. |
