Grand Tetons in SpringPosted by Bill Jennings ((Bay Area Northern Calif), United States) on 4 June 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio. From earlier this week in Grand Teton National Park Just made it home after a month of travel - posted a few photos from my journey to within 48 miles of the antartica circle: at nearly the longest day of the year: hence, there was 21 hours a day of sunlight... Thank you for your patience while I was out of touch. I do hope you followed Bob Kelly's blog (my roommate) while he is still traveling - he is now on Easter Island - and will be updating his blog for some time to come - please check it out!

Magda from Vancouver, CanadaWhat a view!!! Magnificent! Wonderful perspective and nice wide DOF which I love in those kind of landscape photography. Well done 4 Jun 2009 5:11am @Magda: Thank you Magda - I was just commenting to my wife on how wonderful your recent images are - you have a real gift for photography of children. Terry from Regina, CanadaThis one is great Bill. I love the depth of field and love the exposure. 4 Jun 2009 5:40am @Terry: Thank you Terry - I will admit that the foreground came out darker than I wanted, and did some dodging in PS to lighten it up some. I exposed for the peaks - and then dodged some light in the foreground pointing towards the tallest peak (ever so slightly). Dulcie from Danville, United StatesBeautiful shot of the Tetons; very non-touristy. Hope you had a good time there! 4 Jun 2009 6:26am @Dulcie: still here until sunday -- family vacation -- thanks for the well wishes - it's beautiful here. zOOm from Paris, FranceGreat and lovely mountain scape ! Always fascinating. Nice place to be on vacation ! Lucky you ! ;-) 4 Jun 2009 7:23am @zOOm: Yes, I'm fortunate to be here. I count my blessings every day. It's a beautiful place, that helps me remember how wondrous this world is. @Veronelle: thank you - I thought the little yellow helped with the photo composition. dj.tigersprout from New York City, United StatesMagnificent indeed!!! a gorgeous shot Bill -- those mountains are spectacular! 4 Jun 2009 10:29am @dj.tigersprout: They are amazing - they rise straight up for nearly six thousand feet from the floor of the valley. It's very special, especially with the surroundings being kept so pristine with our national parks preserving them. Lorraine from Gatineau, CanadaStunning landscape, that uncanny mixed of snow-capped mountains and beautiful yellow flowers, outstanding! 4 Jun 2009 10:59am @Lorraine: thank you Lorraine - it's a beautiful place, and those flowers aren't out for very long - it's great to be here with them blooming. Marie-Hélène Ammor from Casablanca/Paris, MoroccoSuch a beautiful composition !! It is superb ! Is "grand Tetons" in french their real name ? It is funny ! 4 Jun 2009 11:47am @Marie-Hélène Ammor: Thank you - Grand Tetons is the name in English, may be the same in French - I really can say little more than Merci in French.;.. Roman from Thunder Bay, CanadaNice image Bill, especially the way you've combined the green foreground with the mountains behind. I like the contrast. cheers 4 Jun 2009 11:47am @Roman: Thanks Roman - glad you like the contrasts of the mountains and plains below @Onlymehdi: thanks Mehdi. Susan from Fort Lauderdale, FL, United StatesGorgeous shot Bill, and I love the yellow flowers in the foreground.....Although full shot is in focus, you've managed to get dimension to it!! Nice one!! 4 Jun 2009 1:54pm @Susan: Thank you Susan. Glad you like the landscape. MARIANA from waterloo, CanadaEverything is Beautiful here : Your shot, the view, the place, flowers on greens on one side and high mountains with snow covered tops on other side ! Just like a scene from the movies :)) 4 Jun 2009 2:04pm @MARIANA: Thank you Mariana - it's a pretty stunning place: one that movies would surely use... Jason Kravitz from Brussels, BelgiumBeautiful landscape Bill - I love the layers of green trees, those hints of orange flowers and then the snowy rocky mountains and sky. Well captured. 4 Jun 2009 3:23pm @Jason Kravitz: thank you Jason - it was fun being out in the open spaces for a little while, some time for photography: but mostly a great family trip overall. Mandy Provan from Johannesburg, South AfricaWHAT an amazing contrast, the blooms of spring against the bakdrop of snow!! Fantastic Bill. you live in an amazing part of the world! It is one of the destinations on my "places to see before I die" list!! hahaha 4 Jun 2009 3:28pm @Mandy Provan: it's good you have a list, but let's hope you have many decades to work that list. It is beautiful here. Do make it soon, it's a fabulous trip. Ajay from Pune, IndiaGreat shining beauty of this part of the mother nature, Bill. These mountains are so big and look so beautiful when the sun is out. 4 Jun 2009 3:32pm @Ajay: I just drove in from yellowstone again today, arriving about midnight - and it's nearly a full moon. The Tetons are impressive any time, day or night: the moon illuminating the snow was magical as well. Not often you see a peak rise from a valley floor of 6300 feet to a peak height of over 13300 feet... There are still glaciers on the northeast side of the grand teton from many millinium ago. Thanks for such a kind comment on the blog. @Sarah: Thanks Sarah - coming from a land with such beautiful mountains, that's high praise! john4jack from Corvallis, Oregon, United StatesTerrific. The flowers add such a nice touch. 4 Jun 2009 7:44pm @john4jack: thank you jack - still learning, but I do like an interesting foreground to give scale and interest. B. Thomas from Arlington, Texas, United StatesOh, man, I love the Tetons. I do remember you saying you were heading there. Envy, envy! Great shot. 4 Jun 2009 8:16pm @B. Thomas: Well, it's really my first visit: so I guess I'm jealous of you knowing about them before I did :)... Thanks for the comment on the shot, and let's hope all of us get another chance to visit such beauty again soon. @Dawn Bayer: Thank you Dawn - it caught me by surprise when I first saw them as well. Per from Central Florida, United StatesTruly gorgeous - the flowers in the foreground really make the photo work for me! 5 Jun 2009 12:12am @Per: Thank you Per - always love specific feedback, you're the best. LauraS from Chico, United StatesBoy, that is a beaut! Great shot. Love the foreground, mountains, and the blue, blue sky. 5 Jun 2009 2:15am @LauraS: Thanks Laura. I need to get up your way again soon - it must be beautiful near your home as well, especially this time of year. roentarre from Melbourne, AustraliaThe facade is simply fabulous in deed! Amazingly captured! 5 Jun 2009 3:12am @roentarre: thanks for the kind words on the image - I believe the setting makes the photo ! @Karthik: Thank you Karthik. @Steve Rice: Thank you Steve - it's amazing landscape here in Wyoming... Barbara from Florida, United StatesSpectacular! The contrast of the rocky and snowy terrain in the distance with the green shrubs and yellow flowers is stunning. Well spotted to frame this scene so beautifully. 6 Jun 2009 5:53am @Barbara: Thank you Barbara - tomorrow's our last full day here, and the kids are having a blast: but there is a great deal of driving: there are large distances to travel, and the roads are great: but you must watch your speed, as there are commonly animals crossing the road... appreciate your visit, and I do think about how things are out your way. Barbara from Florida, United StatesIt is wide open country with so much beauty. Enjoy your last full day and safe driving on your return. 6 Jun 2009 6:12am @Barbara: You are a true friend for those that needed you. I am fortunate to know such folks truly exist. Thank you for what you did for her. Sorry to hear about the recent loss. Mourning takes time. Take care of yourself - it hits me hardest months later. jamesy from christchurch, New Zealand5 stars its just so beautiful and dI love the composition 9 Jun 2009 8:57pm @jamesy: Thank you jamesy - it is one of my favorite shots from last week in wyoming. |
