Toto Running in Midair for Silly TuesdayPosted by Bill Jennings ((Bay Area Northern Calif), United States) on 19 May 2009 in People & Portrait and Portfolio. Toto in midair as he runs on the beach - you can tell with the intensity he's having fun. I was just stunned how much he got into the air, and had neither foot on the ground. Plus, love that hair bouncing. It's definitely Silly Tuesday. Just made it home after a month of travel - posted a few photos from my journey to within 48 miles of the antartica circle: at nearly the longest day of the year: hence, there was 21 hours a day of sunlight... Thank you for your patience while I was out of touch. I do hope you followed Bob Kelly's blog (my roommate) while he is still traveling - he is now on Easter Island - and will be updating his blog for some time to come - please check it out!

Dulcie from Danville, United StatesWonderful shot: joy, intensity, movement, mystery (how DID you catch him off the ground?) clarity. Good one!! 19 May 2009 5:49am @Dulcie: My son levitates frequently from his heavenly spirit. Catching him in midair is not that hard ! It still shocks me that he can run like this, especially over wet sand, but he can - and all it takes to photograph it - is a fast lens, patience, and be far enough away he isn't really paying attention (telephoto). Glad you like this "athletic" shot. Lee from Fort Frances Ontario, CanadaPerfectly framed, composed, and captured. Definately looks silly with no feet on the ground. Have a great day. 19 May 2009 6:09am @Lee: I plan to have a great Silly Tuesday ! With my son levitating, how can it be a bad one. Thanks for the comments on the photo technique as well. Linerberry from Sumner, Christchurch, New ZealandHahahahaha oh how wonderful!!!! He really has got one heck of a bounce going on there!!!!! He must have springs for legs!!! lol ahahahahahah!!!! And the hair,,,,,just the cutest thing!!! A great Silly contribution!!!! Go the Silly Billies!!!! 19 May 2009 6:28am @Linerberry: Silly Billies? Yes, with my name Billy, I guess that's true! I still don't know how he runs this way, it's still a mystery for me - but I can tell you - he does it consistently, even over wet sand. I just love his hair, bouncing as he does it. Thanks for the visit and comment. MrsAmber from West Wickham, United KingdomA lovely shot to be proud of...and a bit silly too!! His concentration is amazing. What a cutie. 19 May 2009 7:05am @MrsAmber: Thank you Mrs Amber - we love Toto so much - he's always got an easy smile ! Thanks for the kind words on the photo. P J W Miller from Chase Terrace, United KingdomBill you have created a wonderful image here and good memories for the future 19 May 2009 7:29am @P J W Miller: Yeah - he likes looking at it - as he says "I'm flying" and he really loves flying. Not sure how photogenic this is - but it's a great Silly Tuesday post. Sarito from Basingstoke, United KingdomGreat shot.. like his expression :-).. Good one Bill! 19 May 2009 7:36am @Sarito: Thank you Sarito. Glad you liked it. I enjoyed taking it. @rem_la: Yes, it's a great action shot - glad you liked it! Catherine from Poitiers, FranceA nice picture with very beautiful light !! and expression !! 19 May 2009 12:33pm @Catherine: Thank you Catherine - sometimes the son and the light all line up to make a great portrait! @Evelyne Dubos: Thank you Evelyne - glad you see the uniqueness of the photo. Mariana from waterloo, CanadaFantastic capture . Looks like your boy is flying . And, yes, kids can fly :)) 19 May 2009 2:50pm @Mariana: Yes, Toto can fly - he is always so happy, he is bouyed up by his jubilance most of the time. Glad you liked this "athletic" capture! @LESLIE: Thank you Leslie. Appreciate you dropping by and adding a comment. Susan from Fort Lauderdale, FL, United StatesGreat catch today, Bill!!! With him running with "both feet off the ground", kudos to you for catching him so clearly in his movement.....And the icing on the cake is the "Alfalfa" like hairdo!!!! (our gang comedy, for those of you wondering....) 19 May 2009 3:42pm @Susan: Yeah, I like the "Alfalfa" look here, good catch! Glad you liked this athletic shot (running in midair) - he's a fun kid that is a challenge to capture, but when I do, it usually works. dkc from Xanthi, Greecehehe...his expression is funny and you did a great job catching him on the air! Really love it! 19 May 2009 3:46pm @dkc: thanks dkc - glad you liked the midair capture. Susan from Fort Lauderdale, FL, United StatesWell, it really worked great this time!!! 19 May 2009 5:26pm @Susan: I thought so as well - wasn't quite an "artistic" photo, but it made my cut for a "silly tuesday": I still don't know how he runs with neither foot on the ground - and still level as well with the ground. @Magda: Toto sure is both "cute and fun" - he has a line of girls now at school, even at five, that want "to marry him". He has an easy smile, as one parent says to me the other day. Glad you liked the photo. john4jack from Corvallis, Oregon, United StatesDynamite capture; in the air!! Yea ST!!! 19 May 2009 8:04pm @john4jack: It still amazes me that he is running midair - without any sign how he got there - no sign of jumping, or falling - he was having so much fun that day - it bouys me up just seeing this. Yea ST !!! Craig from Vacaville, California, United StatesA fine mid-air capture! What an athlete! 19 May 2009 10:13pm @Craig: Thanks Craig - I was elated when I was able to catch him running mid-air.. I've seen him do this before, but never when I had my camera ready. He is a great athlete. observing from North West, United KingdomTerrific action shot, and a photo to enjoy later..! 19 May 2009 10:23pm @observing: Thanks! I always enjoy catching the boys doing something unexpected: and this flying was definintely unusual. @Sugata: Nothing that a great lens, and patience can't capture - the hard part was Toto's levitation! Bookfool from Mississippi, United StatesBoys are always trying to fly off of things, so just stick that on his wall and say he has levitated as far as he can go. Preventive measures. ;) 20 May 2009 2:55am @Bookfool: Do you think that would work? I surely hope so - I think Toto would fly to the moon, given the chance. Thanks for the kind words! Loner from Wörgl, AustriaA very nice boy - a good photo ! 20 May 2009 5:00am @Loner: Sonja, I really liked your photos, and look forward to seeing more. Thanks for visiting my site. Bill @Philippe: thanks Phillippe @Eros: Thank you Eros. Love you stuff, glad you stopped by. Bill dj.tigersprout from New York City, United Statesso adorable!! love those crocs!! 20 May 2009 3:06pm @dj.tigersprout: crocs are a photographer's friends - they are always in such fun colors and really add a "beach" feel to the photo. thanks dj. Picture Box from Fishers, United StatesVery good capture Bill. This is very candid and perfect timing. 21 May 2009 4:30pm @Picture Box: Thank you. The timing was fortuitous... mike chase from santa rosa, United Statesthis is a nice action shot Bill. you caught he little guy's joyful run on the beach clearly. his happiness is wonderful to see ! 21 May 2009 5:23pm @mike chase: Thanks Mike. We live so close together : you should let me buy you a lunch or dinner someday! I love seeing your portraits, and could learn so much about lighting from you. Roman from Thunder Bay, CanadaBill, I just love this image !!! You've mentioned, you were surprised how hight he went, but I'm surprised, looking at his face, how effortless it is for him... he just floats there... and doesn't care about a thing in the world.... because floating, high in the air, is such a natural thing for him... ???... cheers 22 May 2009 3:03am @Roman: Roman, if you ever met my son Toto - you would know that he does indeed float in the air naturally! He probably wasn't even aware that he was midair. He definitely had fun that day! Candice from Asheville, United StatesHe looks like he is pacing himself for a distance race. Love the action shots of children. 22 May 2009 3:23am @Candice: Yes, they find such great ways to keep entertained! Glad you liked this image. Barbara from Florida, United StatesDefying gravity! With the landscape in the background Toto could be on the moon. You had great timing and stop action on this, Bill. I particularly like the position of his hands and his expression. Toto makes it look so normal and effortless to be elevated a few feet off of the ground. Air Dance! An image that can make one feel like being a child again. 22 May 2009 1:41pm @Barbara: Toto still runs like this - I should figure out how to take video that is fast enough (like they did at stanford many years back with horses) - to see how he can do this so effortlessly. It's obvious that he's not "trying" to do this, it just happens during the normal course of beach play. Glad it made you step back into your chilldhood... Photos can cause us to travel in time or space, can't they? Ravi from Bangalore, Indiawhat a cute shot and amazing timing for that midair moment. well done, Bill. 22 May 2009 4:15pm @Ravi: Thank you Ravi - taking photos of my boys is like an athletic event to get them crisp in the photo! @jamesy: thank you - glad it captured his spirit with that lofty and silly hair! |
